The Best Time to Visit Orlando, Florida: A Month-by-Month Guide

Planning a trip to Orlando, the theme park capital of the world?

With its subtropical climate, Orlando offers a diverse range of weather conditions throughout the year, making it essential to choose the right time to visit based on your preferences.

We have visited often in different parts of the year so we thought we would do a breakdown of what to expect in each month, including average temperatures, rainfall, humidity levels, and other important factors to consider.

While the month-by-month breakdown provides a general guide to Orlando’s weather patterns, it’s crucial to remember that these are merely averages, and Mother Nature can sometimes surprise us. Florida’s climate, though relatively predictable, can occasionally deviate from the norm, leaving visitors with unexpected weather conditions.

During our own visits to Orlando, we’ve experienced a few instances where the weather defied the averages. We will put notes in about those times below.

Spring (March-May)

Spring is an excellent time to visit Orlando, with comfortable temperatures ranging from the low 70s to the mid-80s Fahrenheit.

The humidity levels are relatively low, averaging around 71%, making it a pleasant time to explore the parks and outdoor attractions.

– March: Average high of 77Β°F (25Β°C), low of 56Β°F (13Β°C), and 3 inches (75 mm) of rainfall

– April: Average high of 83Β°F (28Β°C), low of 61Β°F (16Β°C), and 2.6 inches (65 mm) of rainfall

– May: Average high of 88Β°F (31Β°C), low of 68Β°F (20Β°C), and 3.9 inches (100 mm) of rainfall

Since spring is the dry season in Orlando, you may not need to pack heavy rain gear, but a lightweight poncho or umbrella can come in handy for the occasional shower

Exceptions. Recalling our visit to Orlando in March 2019, we were greeted with pleasant weather upon arrival – not overly humid or excessively hot.

Two weeks in, the weather transformed into a humid and sweltering stretch, where we found ourselves seated at Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace, beads of sweat rolling down our faces. It can change quickly around this time.

Summer (June – August)

Orlando’s summer months are hot, humid, and rainy, with temperatures often reaching the mid-90s Fahrenheit. The humidity levels can soar to around 80%, making it feel even hotter. However, the frequent afternoon thunderstorms can provide a refreshing break from the heat.

– June: Average high of 91Β°F (33Β°C), low of 73Β°F (23Β°C), and 8.1 inches (205 mm) of rainfall

– July: Average high of 92Β°F (33Β°C), low of 75Β°F (24Β°C), and 7.5 inches (190 mm) of rainfall

– August: Average high of 92Β°F (33Β°C), low of 75Β°F (24Β°C), and 7.7 inches (195 mm) of rainfall

Exceptions. We have never experienced any exceptions to this. We have (so far) only been in Orlando for one June. We remember saying we would never go again as it was so hot.

A vivid memory that always stays with us is standing in Hollywood Studios (Then MGM) with sweat dripping down us saying NEVER AGAIN!

We still had a fantastic time and if it’s the only time of the year you can go then it’s better than not going and if you love the heat then this is the time for you.

Remember to pack lightweight clothes, lots of sun cream, portable fans, and hats, and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Autumn / Fall (September – November)

Autumn / Fall is a transitional period in Orlando, with temperatures gradually cooling down from the summer heat.

The humidity levels also start to decrease, making it a comfortable time to visit.

However, it’s important to note that this is also the peak of hurricane season, which runs from June to November (more about that below)

– September: Average high of 90Β°F (32Β°C), low of 74Β°F (23Β°C), and 6.3 inches (160 mm) of rainfall

– October: Average high of 84Β°F (29Β°C), low of 66Β°F (19Β°C), and 3.5 inches (90 mm) of rainfall

– November: Average high of 78Β°F (26Β°C), low of 59Β°F (15Β°C), and 1.8 inches (45 mm) of rainfall

We have visited Orlando often in these months and always found it pleasant. It’s still nice and hot most days, you can expect some rain and storms but usually, we enjoy pleasant weather. We have never experienced a hurricane so we have been lucky.

Winter (December – February)

Winter in Orlando is generally mild and dry, with temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to the mid-70s Fahrenheit. However, occasional cold fronts can bring cooler temperatures, and light jackets or sweaters may be needed, especially in the evenings[3].

– December: Average high of 72Β°F (22Β°C), low of 54Β°F (12Β°C), and 2.6 inches (65 mm) of rainfall

– January: Average high of 71Β°F (22Β°C), low of 50Β°F (10Β°C), and 2.8 inches (70 mm) of rainfall

– February: Average high of 73Β°F (23Β°C), low of 53Β°F (12Β°C), and 2.8 inches (70 mm) of rainfall

We started our Orlando trips way back in 2000 in February. It was perfect. A little chilly in the morning but beautiful by mid-day and afternoon. A Jacket was usually required in the evening.

We would always choose this month over January but as the lodge closes in January then it was the month we ended up going for a few years

We have been in January and it has been perfect and we have been in January and it has been warmer back in the UK. We have scraped ice off the car windows and been miserable that the sun wasn’t out.

It’s a hit-and-miss month which can go either way. You can get beautiful sunny days which are perfect for exploring the parks. After our last trip in January was very cold we vowed we wouldn’t return in that month (but we all say things that then get forgotten so who knows)

Hurricane Season and Rainy Season

Orlando’s hurricane season runs from June to November, with the peak occurring between August and October. While direct hits are uncommon, the effects of nearby hurricanes can bring high winds, torrential rains, and potential flooding to the area.

The rainy season in Florida typically lasts from May to October, with brief but intense showers occurring almost daily in the afternoon. It’s advisable to pack ponchos and be prepared for sudden downpours during this period.

Conclusion

We hope this guide helps you decide which month is the right one for you to visit Florida. Every season has its plus and minus points. Choose which is best for you and make the best of the fun that Florida has to offer
