How to get more YouTube subscribers FAST and should you really do it?
Hi all
We thought we would start sharing some tips and hints that we get to know while we are creating our videos.
Programs and apps we use to share our content, tips from our YouTube manager, and anything else we think of along the way
We know there are always lots of people wanting to start Vlogging, especially in our Orlando Facebook group.
Documenting trips is becoming a popular way of reliving memories in a way that photos can never compare.
It’s great to be able to look back at a trip and remember with more detail what experiences you lived through.
Youtube Manager
We have a YouTube manager whom I speak to from time to time. We chat about the best ways to grow a channel and what we could be doing better on our channel overall.
In our recent conversation, I asked the question “How do we get more Subscribers fast? ” His response was expected if a little disheartening (I’ll explain why later) “Youtube Shorts,” he said.
YouTube shorts are the way to get more subscribers fast at the moment.
YouTube is concentrating on them in the hope of competing and staying relevant in today’s Tiktok-obsessed times.
He said we should aim for one to three shorts a week if we are to benefit the most.
So, it’s pretty simple at the time of writing. If you want more subscribers fast, use Youtube Shorts
Why we didn’t like the answer
I was a little disappointed with the answer even though I knew it was coming, why ?
YouTube shorts are just another TikTok, another Instagram reel. Do we really need more of these on different platforms?
Who preferred the days when Instagram was just photos? π
Everything is aimed at short form these days. People want the get-rich-quick way of building a YouTube channel or an Instagram following.
If you want to grow fast then stick to short form. Build your short videos and according to our YouTube manager; watch your channel grow fast
Will they stay with you ?
Whether those subscribers that come from shorts will stick around to watch your long videos is another story.
People who like to watch TikTok-style videos don’t always want to watch a 30-minute vlog.
This could then make them effectively “dead subscribers” who will only watch your shorts.
If you want a channel full of shorts then great, if you want to watch your longer videos it may not be ideal.
Having one million subscribers is great but if they aren’t watching your main videos then is it really worth it? (we will leave that for you to decide)
We don’t mind posting that kind of content on Tiktok from time to time (we don’t really get all that involved in Tiktok, we kind of forget about it and then have a splurge putting out content then forget about it again) and more on Instagram.
It’s pretty easy to just record something quickly and upload it to a reel. We do see the benefits of being able to quickly share a highlight of our day or a tip we have for travel, without having to wait for the main vlog coming out.
On YouTube, it just doesn’t feel the same to be posting short content all the time on our main channel.
We feel it disrupts the flow. We will do them from time to time but have decided to keep them mainly for our Lodge Guys Extras channel.
So if you want to see more YouTube shorts from us then head over and subscribe to our extras channel
The Lodge Guys Extras Channel
Most of our shorts will be staying on our extras channel
If we think we have a really good short which should be on our main channel then we will upload it there. We don’t want to flood the channel with them though so it will be few and far between
Playlists
Okay, something else our YouTube manager suggested to us. He told us Playlists need to be more succinct and straightforward.
We have too many and it could put people off. So we are in the process of condensing them and making fewer ones. This will be an ongoing process as it will be done whenever we get a moment.
So keep your playlists to a minimum and well organised
Premiers
Last tip for this blog post which our Youtube Manager suggested; Premiers. He suggested doing a weekly Premiere.
The ones where Youtubers get to chat with viewers at the same time the video goes live.
He says it’s a great way to get to speak to viewers in real time and to give links to other videos while chatting to get more people watching other videos of yours. Expanding your watch time all the time.
Recap
- Focus on Youtube shorts if you want to grow fast (whether those subscribers will stick with you and watch all your other videos is up for debate)
- Keep your playlists to a minimum and well organised
- Do a weekly premiere to interact with followers (we tend not to do these but our youtube manager says its a good way of growing your channel)
