We have been vlogging our lives since 2017. We started on a mobile phone before upgrading to a Canon G7x Mark ii The Canon served us well until 2022 when we finally made the move to another brand

We have to stay with a balance of size and quality with the vlogging we do. We need something with high-quality output which is small enough to carry on us at all times. If we filmed one video a week we would look at something larger with more expensive lenses and external microphones. That setup isn’t really practical for whipping out at the drop of a hat when you are in town. One day we may go that way but for now, you can see our smaller set up which we use below

Our main vlogging camera – Sony ZV1

In 2022 we finally decided it was time to say goodbye to our trusty Canon G7X Mark ii (although we do keep it as a backup) We needed something with better autofocus. The ZV1 autofocus is stunningly good (sometimes a little too good) and we can now film and upload in 4k. We didn’t intend to upload in 4k as the file sizes are much larger but one day we left 4k on by mistake and once we viewed the footage we knew there was no returning to 1080p

The Sony ZV1 isn’t the perfect camera (we don’t think that exists as yet and may never) It has a directional microphone which isn’t as good as the Canon for talking from behind the camera. The battery life isn’t all that great but extra batteries don’t cost the earth so we have many spares

The crop in 4k is a little too tight but we have a solution for that below

Wide Angle Macro Lens for Sony ZV-1

The wide-angle lens for the ZV1 gives us that extra bit of wideness on our vlogs so you can see more of the background and our heads aren’t the only thing you see on the screen (no one needs to see our heads that big) It does make the camera larger, heavier and more cumbersome to carry around with us but we think its worth it to see the extra space behind us on the screen.

The Action Camera – Go Pro Hero 10

We always use Go pros for our action cameras these days. They just work as well as we need them to. The sound isn’t always great and can sound very muffled if you get water in the mic but it’s still the best one to use at the moment for us. We had the hero 8 before we upgraded to the 10

Camera Tripod – ULANZI MT-41

We use this Ulanzi Tripod most of the time when we are out and about filming. We like the extendable handle which gives us a little more height when we require it and it folds down to a nice compact size

Memory Card – Lexar Professional 1667x SD Card

We upgraded to this Lexar SD card when we purchased the Sony ZV1 It has worked perfectly with the 4k footage we now film in

Our main editing Laptop – Acer Nitro

We purchased the Acer Nitro laptop a couple of years ago and it’s still does really well with the 4k editing we now do. This is the new version of the Laptop which is the one we would go for if we were buying one now.

Spare Batteries

Spare batteries are an absolute must for vloggers. We like to carry around 5 or 6 with us as the Battery life on the ZV1 isn’t fantastic. Luckily, compatible batteries and chargers are very reasonably priced
