Our favourite Airbnb stays – Top locks cottage Lathom West Lancashire

Last updated on March 26th, 2023 at 12:16 pm

Last year we were kindly invited to try out an Airbnb in Lathom by the owners. With what was going on in life we had to put that on hold. As things have been slowly returning to normal we thought it would be a nice change of scene to head out and take the owners up on their kind offer.

As the cottage had two bedrooms, we invited my parents to enjoy the stay with us. The cottage was in Lathom West Lancashire so just over an hour for us to travel from the apartment.

We knew this was special the moment we walked through the door. The cottage has a log burner, and two lovely king bedrooms, the master bedroom has an abundance of space with plenty of storage. The beds were super comfy and provided a lovely night’s sleep.

The kitchen was our dream kitchen. Lovely and spacious with plenty of areas to sit and have a chat over a glass of wine. A Nespresso machine with pods was on the worktop along with all appliances you need to make a meal. Nick enjoyed creating a lovely Curry one evening

A lovingly restored canal workers cottage, ideally situated beside the locks. The cottage is located in the conservation area of Top Locks, surrounded by the canal and fields, perfect for walks and bike rides in the Lancashire countryside. The local village of Burscough is close by, bustling with popular cafes and pubs. Just opposite on the other side of the canal is the famous Ship Inn, visited by people from all over the county.  We love welcoming guests to this special corner of Lancashire, the cottage is a perfect base to explore the area and caters for guests in all seasons, with a log burning fire and a wood fired hot tub.

By the owners

The owners left a lovely hamper of local goodies including butter, cheese, popcorn, and toasted currant teacakes (those totally won us over)

Without a doubt, our favourite feature of the cottage was the amazing log-fired hot tub in the garden. When we first arrived, we checked the temperature of the water in the tub and it was very cold. We lit the fire underneath and had bets there was no chance it would get up to a suitable temperature. How wrong we were. After a couple of hours, we sat drinking prosecco in the hot bubbles with different coloured lights. It was bliss.

After the hot tub, we moved into the living room and lit the log burner, enjoyed a nice cup of tea on the sofa’s and watched some TV. We can’t recommend this lovely cottage enough and will definitely think about going back again in the future.

Thank you to Amy and Paul the owners for inviting us along to try out their lovely cottage.
