WE IGNORED THE WARNINGS: Our Worst Motorhome Trip Yet!

Hey Lodgers, this is a quick heads-up for all you motorhome and campervan owners out there. Honestly, if you drive any kind of vehicle at all, you’ll want to take note of this one.

If you watch our motorhome vlogs, you know we try to keep things stress-free. But this time, things didn’t go to plan.

What was supposed to be a straightforward drive down to Newquay in Elvis, our Motorhome turned into a bit of a nightmare, and it was mostly our own fault (well, Nick’s fault 😖)

Elvis, our motorhome, the night before we got stuck in traffic. Little did we know what was to come

The Plan vs. Reality: We were glad to get Elvis back on the road. We just had the Pioneer sat nav fitted, so we felt well prepared. The plan was a straight run to Cornwall. It should have taken a few short hours

Google started warning us about traffic and told us to get off the Motorway. We didn’t listen and figured it would be a clear run. We were wrong.

Why didn’t we listen? (or should I say, why didn’t Nick listen?)

Well, to be honest, the Motorway ahead looked clear and running smoothly.

We figured if there really was a traffic jam or any major incident, then the Motorway would be closed.

We were on the slip road to get off, and Nick decided all looked well, and we took a turn back on. The worst decision that day!

Gridlock and Back Lanes. First, we hit standstill traffic.

Sat Nav told us it would be a further hour’s delay. Not too bad, so we settled in and just waited it out…….12 hours later….still there. Check out the full vlog (link at the end of this post) to see why the delay happened and how we managed to not go stir crazy

When we finally got off the motorway, we thought we were in the clear. How wrong we were. Taking a motorhome down a Cornish back lane, which was suggested by Google, was again the wrong idea.

At that point, we were just trusting the sat nav and didn’t realise it was going to turn into a one-lane road rammed with vehicles.

We were creeping along between stone walls hidden in the hedges. Nick was holding his breath in the passenger seat, and we heavily relied on that new camera to avoid scraping the sides off the van.

Finding the Positives. It got tense in the cab, but sitting there stressing wasn’t going to widen the road. We took a breath, drank some water, and eventually had to laugh at the situation. You just have to find the good in it when things go wrong.

Actually, that’s the total opposite of what happened. We were stressed to high heaven (watch the video to see more)

We Made It. We eventually made it to the park-up in one piece. Next time, we’ll definitely pay attention to the sat nav warnings.
