Trying Disney BoardWalk Cake Bake Shop: Is the Pricing Actually Worth It?
We finally made it over to the BoardWalk to try The Cake Bake Shop, and it lived up to the hype.
Between the service and the atmosphere, the experience feels polished. With the white decor and the chandeliers, the interior looks like a high-end wedding reception. We felt very underdressed in our shorts and Mickey T-shirts, but not to worry, lots of others are dressed in Disney daytime clothes also.
If you are planning a visit, here is the breakdown of what to expect and how to navigate the menu.

The Pricing Reality
There has been a lot of talk about the prices here being sky-high. While it is an expensive meal, we found the costs are in line with other signature dining locations at Disney resorts.
You are paying for the environment and the service as much as the food.
- Cake Slices ($22): The one thing you hear people talk about is the high price of a slice of cake. Once you see them on a plate, you see why they cost $22. These are massive. You can easily share one slice between two people, probably even three.
- The Strategy: If you want the experience without the full bill, visit the Bakery side for a treat to-go, but the sit-down service offers the full atmosphere.

Our Meal
We decided to skip the signature cake this time (we have different favourites, I would have gone for chocolate, and Nick wanted a pie) and went with savory entrees followed by a different dessert.
- The Salmon: This was cooked exactly as it should be. It’s a great choice if you want something that feels high-quality but isn’t too heavy.

- The Gumbo: This had plenty of flavor and just the right amount of spice. It came with two crispy bits of bread. It was a slightly smaller portion, but it left room for the dessert

- Drinks: We shared a pot of Earl Grey tea. Tea costs $10 for a pot, which can be shared between two. We managed to get just under two cups each. Nick had a hot chocolate, which he said was good but not the best he’s had. Both were served well and rounded out the meal.

- The Pie: Instead of the $22 cake, we tried pie. Nick had the Blueberry Crumb cake, and I went for the Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse Pie (this was a huge piece, again, could have been shared easily). The peanut butter pie was out of this world. We added a scoop of ice cream each, which was $6 per scoop, but a good portion.

Tips for Visiting
- Reservations: This spot is popular. Use the My Disney Experience app to snag a reservation, especially if you want to eat during peak lunch or dinner hours. We managed to get one on the same day in January. We imagine it would be harder to get at peak times.
- Dress Code: While there isn’t a strict formal dress code, some people were dressed slightly nicer than standard park attire because of the upscale decor. We mentioned to our waiter we felt underdressed, and he said not to worry, as long as you aren’t in swimwear, then you are fine.
- The Bakery vs. The Restaurant: There are two separate entrances. The bakery counter is perfect for a quick snack, but if you want to sit under the chandeliers and have the full service, make sure you check in for the restaurant side. The counter has all the huge slices of cake if that’s all you want to try.

If you find yourself in the BoardWalk area, this is a spot worth trying at least once. It’s a nice break from the standard theme park food.
