We’ve Had a Mare!

Welcome to another adventure in Elvis, our motorhome.

What started as a peaceful morning waking up next to some friendly campsite donkeys quickly turned into an absolute nightmare.

We followed a Google Maps diversion down a tiny farm road, and a standoff with a woman towing a trailer left Elvis with a smashed wing mirror and a nasty scrape down the side.

We were absolutely peed off, to say the least!

Conquering Cheddar Gorge

After that incredibly stressful drive, we eventually made it to Cheddar Gorge.

We tackled the brutal 274 steps of Jacob’s Ladder for some unbelievable panoramic views of the Somerset levels and met a ton of free-roaming mountain goats perched on the cliffs.

We also explored Goth’s Cave and Cox’s Cave, where they actually mature real Cheddar cheese in the dark.

Naturally, we had to try the local delicacies, including a cheddar cheese-flavored ice cream that weirdly tasted like banana bubblegum!

Our Top Motorhome Tips, which we learnt from in this video

• Ditch Google Maps for the country: Use a dedicated motorhome SatNav that factors in your vehicle’s width and length to avoid getting trapped down treacherous single-track lanes. We are using Sygic at the moment, but it’s still not the perfect one. If you have any others you think we should try, drop us a comment below. We would love to hear your thoughts.
• Invest in mirror protectors: Wing mirrors are always the first casualty on narrow roads. Get protective guards to save on expensive replacements. We haven’t got them yet, but they are on our to-do list.
• Carry Brasso or a scratch remover: Essential for buffing out those inevitable side-panel scrapes from overgrown hedges (and rogue trailers).
